Ben Kumfer

Research Assistant Professor, Dept. of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering, Washington University

Ben Kumfer has nearly 20 years of experience in combustion research, with emphasis on innovations to increase process efficiency, reduce pollutant emissions, produce nanomaterials, and enable capture of carbon dioxide. He has published work on a variety of energy and environmental topics including pressurized oxy-combustion, biomass cofiring, particle formation in flames, and health effects of combustion-generated particles. Kumfer serves as the manager of the Advanced Clean Energy Research Facility, which houses several combustion test furnaces at a scale of up to 1 MW. He is also a member of the Center for Aerosol Science and Engineering at Washington University.
