Senator John Cavanaugh
What It Means to Be an Advocate
Sen. John Cavanaugh is an Omaha native with 20 years of experience in public service and community engagement. He serves the 9th District (central Omaha) in the Nebraska Legislature and works for the Douglas County Public Defender’s Office, where he provides legal representation for underserved people in Omaha. He received a bachelor’s degree in politics from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and his Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School. In addition to his legislative work on crucial issues, Cavanaugh is a husband and proud father of four children.
