Sadie Coffey
Diapers to Diplomas
Sadie N. Coffey is the assistant secondary principal and
assistant activities director at Milford Public Schools. The
Nebraska educational leader has spent the last 12 years focusing
on doing what is best for ALL students—students with special
needs, early childhood students, elementary students, secondary
students, and most recently infants and toddlers. Coffey, the
ormer superintendent at Shickley Public Schools, worked
iligently with Shickley early childhood staff, the Nebraska
Department of Education, Nebraska Department of Health and Human
Services, and many other professionals, to make the Shickley
Early Learning Facility (serving children ages 6 weeks through
PreK) the “Diapers to Diplomas” program it is today, focusing
heavily on quality. The Shickley model makes early childhood
care and education accessible, affordable, and of high quality.
Coffey brought the “Diapers to Diplomas” initiative to the
global stage through PBS NewsHour this July, and there will be a
separate “follow-up” airing in October. Coffey enjoys time with
her husband, Phil, and four children, Tucker, EmyJay, Frankie,
and Hank. Outside of spending time with family and friends, she
enjoys pitch, poker, martial arts, golfing, volunteering to
coach youth sports, and working on her dissertation.
